About

Lucy is an artist and composer based in the North East of England whose work explores drone, duration, and materiality through sound. Her musical practice spans experimental, heavy, and improvised forms, with a focus on sustained tone, physical process, and embodied listening. Her primary instrument is guitar.

Alongside her musical work, Lucy is a practising silversmith with an independent material practice. She has developed an original approach to sound-making through the recording of the entire silversmithing process, treating the act of making itself as sonic material rather than documentation. This work was developed in the context of Paul Whitty’s Heritage Sound Diaries project. These recordings form the basis of long-form compositions and have not previously existed in this form.

Her musical output includes dozens of releases across independent labels and self-directed projects. Her physical releases are archived in the British Library Sound Archive, and her work has been broadcast on BBC radio, with physical releases distributed internationally. In 2025, Lucy presented work combining drone-based composition with Renaissance lute as part of Tête à Tête Theatre Company’s contemporary opera programme.

She has given talks on process at universities and art galleries, and her multimedia project Vault of Heaven has been presented in two exhibitions. She has collaborated with established musicians across multiple disciplines. Her practice encompasses works made from recordings of her own heart chambers, investigations into the sonics of chemical warfare, and an album based on William Blake’s Visions of the Daughters of Albion. She has also participated, with consent, as a research subject in a PhD examining how guitarists interpret architectural space through performance.

She is the artistic director and curator of the label The Crystal Cabinet, which she founded in 2021 as a self-directed platform for releasing her own work and selected original artists.

"One of the most interesting and innovative guitarists in the UK at the moment. She doesn’t play the guitar like anyone else I’ve seen or heard."
